This artwork is an invitation to challenge our assumptions about beauty and to celebrate the unique features and characteristics that make us who we are. It prompts the viewer to reflect on their own relationship with scars, and to consider the stories and experiences that have shaped them. Through the use of natural materials, abstract symbols, and personal narratives, my artwork encourages viewers to see the beauty in resilience, the power of courage, and the importance of embracing our individuality. Throughout history, nomads found their way by following the stars as they provided celestial navigation. A sky is seen to be a map with stars as its elements. The same concept is adapted to the human body, with tattoos forming constellations across the body. Arabic tribal tattoos create coordinates on the body according to where they are placed. Comparable to tattoos, the impulse induced when getting harm that results in forming scars is a search for healing, a step away from the person they once were. Although adorned with scars, with memories that left a mark, I view them as stars, as something I appreciate the most—turning my body to a starry constellation. And so they empowered me, gave me assurance in exchange for acceptance.
