The emerging, Dubai-born artist Alia Hussain Lootah expresses herself through delicate shapeless forms, resembling vulnerable bodies. Be it on canvas or wireframe sculptures, a central theme that occupies the organic works of Lootah, who is a mother herself, is motherhood and the complex relationship between mother and child in contemporary life.
Through her flexible and spiral pieces, which are intricately made by hand, Lootah is also playing with the notions of shadow and light. Lootah is also the co-founder of a Dubai art space, Medaf Studio, which is an "art centre aimed at introducing children and adults to art as a form of self-expression and creativity," according to the artist's biography.
