Samar Hejazi (b. California, 1987) is a Palestinian-Canadian visual artist whose diverse practice encompasses textiles, sculpture, installation, and printmaking. Her work explores the possibilities of expanding the internalized boundaries of meaning-making.
Drawing inspiration from various craft traditions, she employs elements such as light, shadow, reflection, and movement to create immersive multidimensional experiences. Through these, she investigates the ever-shifting nature of perception in reality. Her artistic process continuously engages with diverse materials and forms to deepen this exploration.
Samar has held numerous solo exhibitions including ‘An Unravelling', Toronto Palestine Film Festival, The Plumb, Canada (2020); ‘Geometries of Difference’, Open Studio Project Space, Toronto, Canada (2022); ‘Illusions of Separation’, Aurora Cultural Centre, Aurora, Canada (2023). She participated in several national and international group exhibitions, including the Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival, UAE (2023); "As They Gaze Upon Us", Warehouse 421, Abu Dhabi, UAE (2021); "And Other Monuments", Textile Museum of Canada (2021); “An Index”, Museum of Contemporary Art, Toronto, Canada (2019).
She has participated in art residencies at Arquetopia in Oaxaca, Mexico, Cusco, Peru, and Puebla, Mexico, where she was awarded scholarships. Her work has been featured in multiple publications, including Blackflash Magazine, Create! Magazine, and Art Queens Volume II.
Samar has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in New Media from Ryerson University, Toronto (2013) and her work is part of numerous international private collections.
